Abstract

Interleukin (IL)-19 is a member of the IL-10 family of interleukins and is an immuno-modulatory cytokine produced by the main macrophages. The gastrointestinal tissues of IL-19 knockout mice show exacerbated experimental colitis mediated by the innate immune system and T cells.

Unintentional injection to the bone with a pediatric epinephrine auto-injector

  • Allergy, Asthma & Clinical Immunology
  • Case report
  • Open Access

Abstract
Background
Skin-to-bone distance (STBD) in children prescribed a pediatric epinephrine auto-injector (EAI) for anaphylaxis is not commonly measured in practice. Recent evidence suggests that children with STBD less than the exposed needle length of available pediatric EAIs (dose: 0.15 mg, needle length: 12.7 mm) are at risk for unintentional injections to the bone during their use for an allergic emergency.

Abstract
Background
Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common physical developmental disability in childhood with a prevalence of 2 to 3 per 1000 live births. β2-adrenoreceptor agonist (β2AA) are widely used for the treatment of asthma. Maternal use of β2AAs may increase the risk of adverse neuro-psychiatric health outcomes in the offspring. No study, however, has evaluated the effect of prenatal exposure to β2AAs on the risk of CP.

Abstract

Background
Yellow nail syndrome (YNS) is a rare disease characterized by the triad of thickened, slow-growing yellow nails, lymphedema, and chronic respiratory manifestations. The cause of YNS is not known; however, it is suggested to be due to a congenital lymph abnormality. Since YNS is accompanied by chronic bronchial infection in more than half of patients, we hypothesized that treatment with clarithromycin (CAM) could be effective.
