Allergic rhinitis, while troublesome for a patient, may be also a challenge for the physician. That is why physicians must still learn more on the pathophysiology, clinical spectrum and novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to the disease. The chapters of this volume address a variety of important topics related to allergic rhinitis. They begin with a description of innovative translational approaches allowing for unification of animal and human models.   Marek L. Kowalski is Professor and the Chair of Clinical Immunology and Microbiology, Head of Department of Immunology, Rheumatology and Allergy, Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University in Lodz. He is also Head of Asthma and Allergy Center at the University Hospital. Medical and doctorate degrees he received from the Medical University in Lodz, and for three years was a Visiting Fellow at the Allergic Diseases Section, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA. He is a Member of WAO Board of Directors and Chair of WAO Communication Council from 2008 to 2011. He was the Treasurer of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology; and the president of the 2009 EAACI Congress in Warsaw. He is the past President of the Polish Society of Allergology. Prof. Kowalski is the editor – in – chief of Alergia Astma Immunologia and serves on editorial boards for Current Allergy and Asthma Reports; Allergy and Asthma Proceedings, World Allergy Journal, Central and Eastern European Journal of Immunology, International Review of Allergology and Clinical Immunology Annals of Respiratory Medicine; Future Drugs and Archives of Medical Sciences. His major research interests include pathogenesis and management of bronchial asthma, rhinosinusitis and hypersensitivity to NSAIDs. He has authored or co-authored more than 300 publications.
